Hemorrhoids Overview

Hemorrhoids are the condition when the veins around the anus get swollen. The anus is the opening from where the bowel is excreted from the body. Hemorrhoids are also formed on the lower rectum, which is the part at the bottom of the intestines that lead to the anus. The hemorrhoids on the lower rectum are called internal hemorrhoids while those near the anus are external hemorrhoids.

External hemorrhoids are more common than the internal ones. Mostly all people suffer from this condition one time in their lives. This is especially common with women during their expectancy, as the pressure on the abdomen leads to constipation and hemorrhoids. They suffer from this condition also after the childbirth when they are breast-feeding the child. During breast-feeding, the body suffers from a lack of water retention which leads to dry and hard stools. The extra pressure during the bowel movements causes hemorrhoids to form.

The hemorrhoids can be very painful for some people. People have bleeding, pain around the anus and have difficulty in bowel movements. The pain makes it more difficult to excrete which increases constipation and the hemorrhoids.

The best treatment of hemorrhoids is to treat the constipation. This is because when constipation is treated and soft stools are passed out without straining, the hemorrhoids heal away themselves. Nevertheless, if constipation gets severe, then with more straining during excretion, the hemorrhoids also get more severe and become more painful. Hence, when you consult a doctor for treatment, the doctor mostly prescribes treatment for constipation, as this is the only best treatment known.

The doctors may recommend some medicines to treat constipation. Some of these medicines are very effective. Lactulose is the best medicine that is safe to use and is very effective. You have to take the lactulose before sleeping and mostly, the constipation is treated in the morning. However, extended use of lactulose can make your body dependant on it and you will not be able to excrete without this syrup. It is recommended, therefore, to change the eating habits and take a diet that does not lead to constipation.

The best diet for that is the one that contains many glasses of water. Forget about the eight glasses a day, and drink as much as you can, whenever you are taking a break from your work. Sit and drink up, as many bottles of water as you can and you will see the difference for sure.
